Over 400 respiratory therapists, physicians and nurses participated in the XII International Congress for Respiratory Care sponsored by the Mexican Association for Respiratory Therapy (AMTR) in Mexico City, August 6-9, 2014 at the Paraíso Radisson Perisur Hotel. The Congress was approved by the International Education Recognition System (IERS) and presented 64 speakers and 18 workshops during the three day meeting. The Latin American Board for Professional Certification in Respiratory Therapy also conducted credentialing examinations for applicants to the certification system.

The international faculty included Thomas Kallstrom, Executive Director, American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), Gary Smith, Executive Director, National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), Homer Rodriguez, Executive Director, Latin American Board for Respiratory Therapy (LABRC) and Jerome Sullivan, President, International Council for Respiratory Care (ICRC). Dr. Hector Leon Garza, accepted a 25 year Recognition Award for Service & Excellence presented to The Mexican Association for Respiratory Therapy by ICRC President, Jerome Sullivan.
